Albion, Holley win soccer tourney openers
Albion and host Holley both scored victories this evening in the opening round of the Lady Hawks soccer tournament.
Albion defeated Honeoye 4-1 in the first game and then Holley blanked Midlakes 3-0 in the nightcap.
Albion will now face Holley in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Albion grabbed a narrow 1-0 first half lead against Honeoye as Claire Squicciarini scored off an assist from Mariah Plain.
The Purple Eagles then broke the contest wide open with a burst of three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Nicolina Creasey, Kenzi Hapeman and Abby Scanlan took turns scoring those goals. Plain earned two assists and Abbie Pappalardo one during that key stretch.
Laurne Wehling earned her first varsity win in goal for the Purple Eagles.
Holley got three second half goals from exchange student and team captain Milla Steenholdt to snap a scoreless deadlock and defeat Midlakes.
Kayleigh Neale had two assists and Allyson Skehan one for the Lady Hawks.
