Akron girls top Medina, Albion bests Newfane in N-O League softball season finales

Moving on top to stay with a three run first inning scoring burst on a string of four straight hits, Akron went on to defeat Medina 15-1 this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League softball season finale.

A two-run double by Lydia Blueye and an RBI single by Darion Jonathan highlighted the opening inning uprising for the Lady Tigers which quickly tacked on two more runs in the second inning.

Abi Neuman had two hits for Medina as Lacey Kenward and Paige Adkins each added one.

Defensively, the Mustangs turned a double play from Paige Adkins to Brandi Guild.

Akron finishes the N-O season in second place at 9-3 and Medina in third at 8-4.

Albion 8, Newfane 2

A grand slam home run by Lexi Wolck highlighted a big six run seventh inning scoring burst which powered Albion past Newfane 8-2 in another N-O contest.

Alexis Bentley and Kendall Derisley both added RBI singles during the decisive uprising.

Earlier, the Purple Eagles scored once in the third on a single by Brylie Hapeman and once in the fifth on a double by Paige Derisley.

Wolck, Paige Derisley and Kendall Derisley each had a pair of hits.

The Puple Eagles finish the N-O season at 4-8 and the Lady Panthers at 1-11.

Albion next visits Tonawanda on Tuesday in the opening round of the Section VI Class B1 playoffs.
