Bradley begins Pro Triathlete season

Lyndonville native Scott Bradley recently opened his Triathalon season by competing in the Ironman 70.3 Texas at Galveston.

The 70.3 triathlon includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile half marathon.

Bradley finished 9th out of the 21 Male Pros and 10th overall out of the 386 participants who finished the story interupted race as his total time for the day was 3:57.08, a personal record which broke his best by over four minutes.

Breaking the four hour barrier was one of his goals for 2018 season that eluded him but that is now in the books. “It was difficult to have Cozumel (his final 2018 event) hanging over my head for the entire winter, but it was also motivating. Breaking the four hour barrier helped to put the Cozumel DNF (did not finish) officially to bed.” He was forced to pull out of the race due to neck issues he had been dealing with.

Bradley was 20th out of the 21 Male Pros coming out of the water at Galveston in a time of 29:20.

On the bike, he rode a 2:00:39, averaging 27.85 mph,. This was a Personal Record which was the third fastest bike time of the day.  The only two beating him on the bike were Andy Starykowicz and Matt Russell,who were third and sixth respectively on the bike at the 2018 Ironman World Championships in Kona.  Russell beat him by 5 seconds. This bike time saw him climb to 6th among the Male Pros as he dismounted his bike.

Bradley’s posted a time of  1:24.55 in the run before the event was stopped due to a major thunderstorm and torrential rains.

Bradley entered the season after achieving a high ranking in 2018.

Using the Complete Rankings for 2018 since he races as a professional in the 35-39 age group, Scott was ranked 76th among 9,425 competitors (41st among those from the U.S.)

Among those who, like Bradley, participated in two or more events, he was ranked 45th (36th from the U.S.)

Rankings are also shown for U.S. athletes by the area of the country in which they reside, as well as by state. Among those athletes residing within the Northeast U.S., he was ranked 8th among triathletes of all ages (4th among those with two or more races), not just the 35-29 age group.

In New York State he was ranked 3rd among triathletes of all ages and first among those with two or more races.

The remainder of Bradley’s 2019 schedule consists of Ironman 70.3 Eagleman in Maryland in June, Ironman Lake Placid in July and Ironman 70.3 Augusta, Georgia in September. He likely will add one more race at the end of the season.
