KNOWLESVILLE – Master Gardener volunteers showed sixth-graders the compost area and discussed the science behind composting. Students also got to experience a worm bin in this station at Conservation Field Days.

The Orleans County 4-H fairgrounds hosted about 400 students from the five school districts in Orleans County the past two days for the annual Conservation Field Days.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service shared information on species of animals in the local area and offered students a chance to engage in some hands-on science through the use of microscope viewers.

Other presenters included the NY Sturgeon for Tomorrow, Apex Clean Energy, Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, Iroquois Wildlife Refuge, Braddock Bay Raptors, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and staff from the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Orleans County.
