30-pounder now leads OC Fishing Derby

There is a new leader in the Orleans County Fishing Derby after a 30-pound, 9-ounce Chinook salmon was caught on Saturday. Keith Sheffield on Henrietta now is the leader. If no one catches a bigger fish, he wins the $4,000 grand prize on Aug. 20.

The leaderboard is filling up in the derby, which includes $8,800 in prizes. The four divisions winners all get $500.

The division leaders include:

• Salmon Division – 29 pounds, 10 ounces, Robert Giggey of Hartland, Maine

• Rainbow Trout/Steelhead Division – 13 pounds, 0 ounces, Rhonda Daigle of Canaan, Maine

• Brown Trout Division – 12 pounds, 12 ounces, Jason Grager of Lyndonville

• Lake Trout Division – 17 pounds, 10 ounces, Dan DeGeorge of Rochester

Joseph Sullivan of Albion also is in the lead for the Bonus Award of $200 given to the Orleans County resident who catches the biggest fish. He reeled in a Chinook that weighed 22 pounds, 7 ounces.

The prizes will be handed out during an awards ceremony at 4 p.m. on Aug. 20. The program will be at the Black North Inn.
