3 killed in Shelby accident on Route 63

SHELBY – Today at approximately 11:30 a.m., state troopers responded to a head-on collision on Route 63 in the town of Shelby, Orleans County.
Further investigation revealed that a U-Haul van was traveling southbound on 63 and crossed the center line striking an oncoming pickup truck. Both vehicles left the roadway and were consumed by fire.
The operator, Charles L. Stevens, 80, of Black River, NY and the passenger Jeffrey S. Johnson, 57, of Carthage, NY were pronounced dead at the scene.
The operator of the pickup truck is still being identified.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Shelby Volunteer Fire Company assisted in this investigation.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
