A three-day state health advisory for air quality in Orleans County and across the state will end at midnight.

In Orleans County, the state Department of health and Department of Environmental Conservation have been in the “Unhealthy” category, according to the Air Quality Index.

That index had Albion at 174 at 5 p.m. today, which is in the “Unhealthy” range. On Saturday, the AQI is forecast to drop to the moderate level between 50 and 99 AQI.

The air quality has been unhealthy the past three days due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

“As we prepare to celebrate this holiday weekend, New Yorkers should continue to check the latest air quality in their region before heading outside,” Governor Hochul said in a press release this afternoon. “We remain committed to protecting public health and will continue to update New Yorkers to help everyone stay safe outdoors as conditions continue to change.”

The smoke plume is expected to be gradually pushed from southwest to northeast Friday night into Saturday.
