Albion proclaims September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

ALBION – The Albion Village Board on Wednesday issued a proclamation declaring September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The board presented the proclamation to Tina and Jeremy Neal, who are the parents of Byron Neal, at age 8 on April 14, 2023 after a brave battle with cancer.
From include village trustees Jami Allport, William Gabalski, Jeremy and Tina Neal, Mayor Tim McMurray, and trustees Greg Bennett and Kevin Sheehan.
“Village of Albion residents are urged to recognize the impact of pediatric cancer on families within our community and honor the children in our community whose lives have been cut short by cancer,” the proclamation states.
Tina Neal thanked the board for issuing the proclamation and showing support for the families who have lost children to cancer. The Neal family is active in C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association.
The proclamation states National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time to honor children and families affected by this deadly disease and to rally support for ground- breaking research that can save kids’ lives.
The American Cancer Society states that in 2025 about 9,550 children in the United States under the age of 15 are expected to die from cancer.
In the Rochester region, 61 local children have been newly diagnosed with cancer, and 5 have relapsed and 5 children have died from the disease in 2025.
“Although cancer is pernicious and complex, National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month challenges us to change the numbers; we must remain vigilant to improve these statistics and press forward,” the proclamation states.
Oakfield-Alabama spikers down Lyndonville
Oakfield-Alabama downed Lyndonville 25-17, 27-17, 23-25, 25-22 in a Genesee Region League volleyball match this evening.
Leah Kenyon, Hannah Fox and Grace Fox each had 3 aces for Lyndonville as Isabella Bresett and Sarah Corser both had 2.
Bresett also had 6 kills and Kenyon and Corser 3 each.
Albion and Kendall score boys soccer wins
Snapping a season opening three game losing streak, Albion defeated CSAT 2-0 in a non league boys soccer game this afternoon.
Brendan Smith scored both goals for the Purple Eagles as Damon Taylor and Garret Jones each earned an assist.
Kendall 2, Attica/Alexander 0
Kendall blanked Attica/Alexander 2-0 in a Genesee Region League game.
Andrew Cole scored off an assist from Brenden Eichas and Sammy Conte tallied on a header off an assist from Cole.
Spectacular September sunset graced the sky

CARLTON – It was a spectacular sunset this evening, especially over Lake Ontario. This photo was taken from the beach near the Oak Orchard Marine Park.

The high temperatures for the next few days include 70 on Friday, 78 on Saturday, 76 on Sunday and 68 on Monday.
Akron, Barker win N-O field hockey openers
Defending champion Akron blanked visiting Medina 6-0 and Barker downed visiting Wilson 6-1 in season opening Niagara-Orleans League field hockey games this afternoon.
Mackenzie Tomporowski and Brooke Milhollen both scored 2 goals and Abigail Schlabach and Madigan Regan each had 1 to lead the way for Akron.
Milayna May scored 3 goals to pace Barker as Lilly Reyes, Sophia Pavlock and Faith Bowerman each had 1.
Brynn Lepsch scored the goal for Wilson.
In the other opener, Kenmore downed Roy-Hart 6-2. Savannah Newton and Bella Rhinehart each scored a goal for the Lady Rams.
Lyndonville’s Class of 1976 celebrates 50th reunion

LYNDONVILLE – The Lyndonville Class of 1976 celebrated its 50th reunion recently at the Webber Cafe.
“It was an enjoyable evening of sharing memories and reconnecting,” said classmate Elaine Smith.

Lady Hawks blank Alexander in G-R soccer
Improving to 4-0 overall, Holley blanked host Alexander 3-0 in a Genesee Region League girls soccer game this afternoon.
Ava Mosier scored 2 goals and Philomena Arnold 1 as the Lady Hawks go to 2-0 in G-R competition.
Jayna Burris, Kyla Burne and Carsyn Mogle each had an assist.
Wilson 10, Newfane 0
Wilson opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League girls soccer title with a 10-0 win over rival Newfane which slips to 0-2.
Albion golfers post win over Medina
Albion downed Medina 238-260 in a Niagara-Orleans League golf match at Hickory Ridge this afternoon.
Drew Pritchard shot 42, Viktor Snyder 47 and Owen Spencer 48 to lead the way for Albion.
Cam Fike took medalist honors for Medina with a 41 and Tyler Draper had a 45.
N-O Volleyball
Newfane d. Roy-Hart 3-0
Newfane downed defending champion Roy-Hart 25-8, 25-11, 25-17 in a N-O volleyball match this evening.
Newfane is now 2-0 and Roy-Hart 1-1.
