2 people killed in accident this morning on 104 in Gaines
GAINES – Two people were killed this morning in an accident after they struck a deer, swerved and then went over a guard rail and landed upside down in Beardsley Creek.
The driver and a passenger of a 4-door sedan were headed east on Route 104 when the deer was struck at 6:49 a.m.
Undersheriff Chris Bourke said it appears the driver overcorrected, drove up the end of a guard rail which then caused the vehicle to flip over. The vehicle landed in deep water in the creek, which is between Eagle Harbor and Gaines Basin roads.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office is working to notify the family of the fatal accident. The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit also is at the scene assisting the Sheriff’s Office.
A section of Route 104 remains closed to traffic.
