2 child car seat safety checks planned by Sheriff’s Office

Staff Reports Posted 25 August 2022 at 2:41 pm

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office is planning two child car seat safety checks.

The first will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Orleans County 4-H Fairgrounds, 13925 Route 31 in Knowlesville.

Another one will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Lyndonville Central School parking lot at 25 Housel Ave.

According to data, vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ranging from ages 1 to 13, Sheriff Chris Bourke said.

Preventative measures, such as proper installation of car seats, boosters and seat belts can lower many deaths and injuries. Informing and instructing parents and caregivers on child safety and proper installation of car seats is critical to saving young lives, Bourke said.

The Sheriff’s Office will have certified child passenger safety technicians available to inspect car/booster seats to assure they are the correct seat for size and age.
