Press Release, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office

LOCKPORT – The coronavirus pandemic has been a way of life for the entire country for several months. At the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office we have evaluated and adapted operations as needed to keep our employees, inmates and the public as safe as possible.

During a recent round of testing in the correctional facility, 12 inmates tested positive for the coronavirus. All inmates that tested positive are doing well, currently asymptomatic and have been isolated.

To date, 156 inmates have been tested. Our current inmate population is 284. We are coordinating with the Niagara County Health Department and our medical provider to ensure all protocols are followed related to the recent positive cases.

Throughout the pandemic we have followed guidance from the CDC, NYS Health Department, NYS Commission of Corrections and Niagara County Health Department. Further testing will be conducted for staff and inmates as deemed appropriate by guidance and tracing.

“The safety of our staff, inmates in our facility and the general public have been at the forefront of every decision made regarding our operations,” said Sheriff Michael Filicetti. “Minimizing the effects of Covid-19 remains a top priority for this office.”
