The 10u Roy-Hart Dynamites captured the championship at the Wood Bat Tournament this weekend held at Akron Park.

The Dynamites went 2-1 in pool play losing to the West Seneca Warriors 7-4, beating the Alden Stars 17-1 and Pembroke United 17-6.

Entering the semi-finals as the No.2 seed, the Dynamites beat No. 3 seed Pembroke 7-5.  They then played the number the top seeded  Warriors in the championship game and won 9-1.

The hottest bats on the weekend for the Dynamites were Nick Bucholtz and Xavier Holmes, both of whom had multiple hits in every game of the tournament.

Other notable contributors were Carter Woodworth and Jack Kempf, each hitting home runs and a double on the weekend.  Timely hitting was also key for the Dynamites, as players like Brody Fry, Nate Gibson, Jax Brinley, John Peracciny,  Gavin Heideman, Ryleigh Culver  and Evan Poeller drove in key runs and kept the team’s rallies going.

As important as the team’s hitting was, the Dynamites got back to their old ways with dominant pitching throughout pool play and championship Sunday. Great pitching by Culver, Fry, and Brinley, along with solid team defense kept the Dynamite’s opponent off the scoreboard in the championship game until the final inning, when Sean Mettler came in and slammed the door shut on the West Seneca team to capture the tournament capping victory.

Next up, the Dynamites play in the Lou Gehrig Iron Horse Tournament in East Amherst next weekend.
