Hunter, 68, dies in Royalton from apparent medical emergency

ROYALTON – The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call at 9:20 this morning reporting that a hunter had fallen from a tree stand in the woods behind 4562 Royalton Center Rd.

Unsuccessful life-saving treatment was given to the 68-year-old man at the scene where he was pronounced deceased.

Emergency units from Gasport Chemical Hose Volunteer Fire Company, Terry’s Corners Volunteer Fire Company, Mercy Flight, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police responded to the scene and located the man who was lying unresponsive at the base of his tree stand.

Initial investigation indicates the man appeared to suffer from a medical emergency while up in the tree stand and then fell from the tree stand to the ground. Niagara County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing to investigate the incident.

The victim’s name will not be released at this time pending notification to his family.
