MEDINA – A Niagara County resident was killed in a car accident late last night after driving off South Main Street, hitting a curb, and striking a tree.

Medina Police Department Lt. Todd Draper said the driver, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Police Department and Medina Fire Department were dispatched at 1:52 a.m. for a one-car motor vehicle accident. The responding units located an SUV with heavy front end damage in the yard of 1025 S. Main St., Draper said.

The driver and sole occupant was able to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders, who determined that the driver did not have a pulse and attempted resuscitation efforts.

South Main between Orient and Church streets was closed until about 5 a.m. as the accident was investigated.

The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

“The Medina Police Department would like to thank all first responders who assisted, including Medina Fire Department, New York State Police, Orleans County Sheriff’s Road Patrol and Dispatch,” Draper said.
