Tiger matmen return good nucleus
Six grapplers who qualified for last year’s Section V Super Sectionals will anchor the lineup for the Lyndonville wrestling squad this season.
That veteran group includes seniors Tony Recco and Devon Joy, junior Tom Follman and sophomores Jeff Gress Jr., Dustin Joy and Garren Bayne.
Recco captured both Class B and Section V titles last year and went on to place third at the state meet compiling a 48-4 record.
Gress, who was 39-8, placed second in Class B and fifth at the Super Sectiomals while Dustin Joy was first at Class B, Follman third at Class B and sixth at Super Sectionals and Devon Joy fourth at Class B and third at Super Sectionals.
Senior Chris McDonald along with sophomores Dustin Hinkley, Dawson Joy, Frankie Carisqualia and Anthony Solomon and freshman Cullen Heveron also all return to the Tigers lineup.
“That gives us a really good nucleus,” said Coach Jeff Gress. “We lost only one senior so I think we’ve got a pretty good group. I expect our guys are going to do really well.”
The Tigers will open the season at Albion on December 1 and then host Holley on December 9 in the Genesee Region League lid-lifter.
