Kenneth L. Gibson

ALBION – Kenneth L. “Papa” Gibson, 78, of Albion, NY, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Born on September 1, 1945, in Indiana, PA, he was the youngest son of the late Glenn and Ruth (Keith) Gibson.

Ken graduated from Oakfield-Alabama High School in 1963, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served two tours on the USS Eldorado during the Vietnam War.

On March 28, 1964, he married the former Sue Pender, and they raised four children together.

Ken worked in aerospace at Moog, then in auto manufacturing at LeRoy Machine, American Axel, and lastly, retired in 2014 as a product manager at Jiffy Tite.  After his retirement, Ken and Sue would winter in Lakeland, FL. Ken was a devout Christian and was an active member of the Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship Church, serving as a Trustee and Church Elder. He also served as a member of Harvest Hand Ministries in El Paso, TX.  Ken cherished the time he spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren, cheering them on at their sporting events.

Ken is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue; his children, Pamela (Richard) Desjardins of Oakfield, NY, Jodi (Rev. Russell) Peters of Medina, NY, Matthew Gibson of Avon, NY, and Evan (Lindsay) Gibson of Owasso, OK. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brennan Peters, Devon Peters, Baylee Desjardins, Alexandra Dieter, Collin Peters, Olivia Gibson, and Cameron Gibson; two great-grandchildren, Isla and Liam Peters; four siblings, Norman (Evelyn) Gibson of Byron, NY, Marilyn Mason of East Brunswick, NJ, Doris Cole of Las Cruces, NM, Larry (Christine) Gibson of Albion, NY, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ken is predeceased by his siblings, Billy, Ronald Gibson, and Gloria Felker; a brother-in-law, Duane Pender and a sister-in-law, Karen Easton.

Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship, 5329 S. Gravel Rd. Medina, NY 14103, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. with his son-in-law, Pastor Russell Peters, officiating. A private burial will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Pembroke, NY, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ken’s name to Harvest Hands Ministries, 6636 S. Portage St. Westfield, NY, 14787, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
