John R. Stachewicz Jr.

MEDINA – John R. Stachewicz Jr., 78, of Medina, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Niagara Hospice. He was born on March 31, 1946, in Medina, NY, the son of the late John R. and Ethel (Pritchard) Sr. John graduated from Lyndonville High School in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving a tour in Vietnam. He returned home and married the former Margie E. Watts on October 18, 1972; they raised five children together. John was a guard for Orleans Correctional in Albion for over 25 years. While working in corrections, he moonlighted as a bartender for the Apple Grove and other establishments and also worked as a security guard at the Twin Towers Ground Zero. He was a life member of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Company. John will always be remembered as a “Jack of all trades, master of none.”

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margie, four children, Gwyn Peters, of Potterville, MI; Kim (Joshua) Phillips of Spartanburg, SC, Christopher Stachewicz and Kathryn Stachewicz, both of Medina, NY; nine grandchildren, Robyn, Travis, Dustin, Matthew, Derrek, Brittney, Jacob, Kali and Scarlet, eight great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Carter, Lucas, Dallas, Natalie, Anthony, Charles, and Auraliah, who is due to arrive in April of 2025. Also surviving are three sisters, Sandy Taylor of Lyndonville, NY, Susan (Edward) Shutt of Medina, NY, and Teresa (Jerry) Gean of Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his daughter, Laura Yates, and two brothers, Tony and Michael. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, October 8, from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Medina, NY 14103, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 9 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the WNY National Cemetery at Pembroke, NY, with full military honors. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to the Shelby Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box #1, Medina, NY 14103.
