James Gurman

James D. “Jim” Gurman, 59, of Barker, entered into rest on Sat., Aug. 17, 2019 at Buffalo General Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born on Dec. 11, 1959 in Lockport, he was the son of the late Franklin and Faith (Wagner) Gurman.

Jim was a lifelong resident of Barker and, after his schooling, he was employed as a diesel mechanic at various places, including Wren Trucking of Cheektowaga, Brigham Concrete of Lockport, New Holland Ford of Lockport, and Barden Homes in Middleport. Jim retired to pursue his passion as a homesteader on his farm. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and he dearly loved his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He is survived by four children, Heather Gurman of Lockport, Mike (Brandi) Gross of Louisiana, Jamie (Josh) Traxler of Akron, and James (Jodi) Utter of Barker; six grandchildren, Cole, Jackson, Cooper, Odin, Iliana and Elijah; siblings, Darlene “Susie” (Tony) Wagner of Barker, Art Gurman of Barker, Rose “Rosy” (Anthony) Doty of Barker, and Jeanne (Daniel) Strauss of Lockport; his aunt, Dorothy Gantin of Watkins Glen, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his four-legged companion, Lucy.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his oldest brother, William Gurman; and his niece, Amber Gurman.

Relatives and friends may attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 7 at Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville.

Memorials may be made in Jim’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
