Niagara Nationals win New Era Tourney
Compiling a perfect 6-0 record over three days of competition, the Niagara Nationals captured the New Era Cap Classic Tournament championship over the weekend.
The Nationals were lead by their strong pitching staff which surrendered only nine runs in six games. The offense likewise did their part scoring 56 runs over that span.
Several local players including Liam Ward from Albion along with AJ Seefeld), Nate Sherman, Chris Goyette, Trevor Luthart and Brian Fry, all from Medina, were all key contributors all weekend.
Sherman was named the tourney’s MVP for his timely hitting and rock solid glove work at second base and in the outfield.
The Nationals defeated Clarence 10-3 in the finals.
In advancing to the finals the Nationals defeated the Niagara Spartans 9-0, Orchard Park Warriors 14-0, Lamncaster 7-1, Brampton 5-4 and the Titans 11-1.
The Nationals next look to defend their crown as two-time defending champions
(2012 and 2013) at the Lancer Classic this upcoming weekend in Lewiston.
