Putting together a late scoring surge, Medina rallied to edge past Lockport 5-3 this evening in a non league lacrosse game at Vets Park.

Able to tally just once over the first two and a half quarters, Medina erupted for four unanswered tallies down the stretch, three by Jake Cotter and one by Aaron Feltz, to claim the victory and improve to 3-0 on the season.

“We finally got our legs under us,” said Medina Coach Gordy Luthart in noting that the contest was the second in as many days for the Mustangs. “Lockport is much improved so this was a good test for us to have to come from behind. We persevered and finally got it going.”

Trailing 3-1, Medina pulled even on two quick goals by Cotter, the first coming with 3:31 to go in the third period and the second just 51 seconds into the final quarter.

Medina’s Aaron Feltz looks to take a shot.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs regained the lead for good when Feltz scored what proved to be the game winner with 5:44 remaining.

Medina then put a lock on the win when Cotter netted an insurance tally just 56 seconds later at 4:48 for a 5-3 lead.

The Mustangs also got off to a fast start as Brett Pecoraro scored just two minutes into the opening quarter for a quick 1-0 lead.

However, the Mustangs could not find the net again until late in the third quarter.

In between the Lions scored twice in the second period and another early in the third quarter to build up a 3-1 lead.

The final four tallies and the win though belonged to the Mustangs as Cotter’s two quick goals ignited the rally.

Cotter now has a total of 9 goals on the season, Feltz 6 and Pecoraro 5.

Adam Cotter in goal anchored the Medina defense.

Medina next visits Amherst on Monday.

Jake Cotter, who netted three goals on the night, takes a shot.
