Breaking away from an early 2-2 tie, the Amherst Lightning scored five times in the second inning to move on top to stay in route to posting a 23-12 win over the host Medina 10U Fillies Thursday evening at Butts Park.

A grand slam home run highlighted the big second inning for the Lightning which then put a lock on the win by scoring six times in both the third and fourth innings.

Bonnie DiCureia and Brianna Smith both had three hits for the Fillies as Lily Joe Carpenter and Demi Doward both had two. Smith’s hits included a double and Carpenter’s a triple.

The Fillies tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Faith Oberther and DiCureia. A single by King and a walk to Ryan Olles set up the threat.
