JV Mustangs have big season
The Medina JV boys basketball team, led by Coach Eric Hellwig, wrapped up the season last Thursday with a 78-63 win over CSAT to finish with a 14-4 overall record, and a Niagara-Orleans League best 13-1 mark.
This year marked the best record for the JV team since Hellwig took over as the JV coach in the 2006-07 season. The Mustangs lone league loss came at Wilson by 3 points, which was later avenged with a 63-42 win at home. The additional win for Medina came in a non-league contest against Maritime Charter School.
The Mustangs were led in scoring by sophomore Quincy Harper, who tallied 188 points (11.1 ave). Harper also pulled down 136 rebounds and led the team defensively in blocks and steals.
Other key contributors were freshman Mason Lewis, finishing with 159 points (9.9 ave), eighth grader Johnny Salone, scoring 158 points (8.8 ave) and grabbing off a team leading 166 boards, sophomore Tyler Howard, tallying 122 points (8.7 ave), and eighth grade point guard Tookie Montague, adding 95 points (5.3 ave) and handing out a team best 72 assists.
Other members of the Mustangs roster included: sophomores Quentin Adkins, Tyrellis Atkins, Michael Cardone, Emmanuel Sones, freshman Alex Allis, Brendan Luthart, Trenton Jones, and eighth graders Ronnie Koonce, Izaiah Rhim, and Daemon Shatara.
