Banes scores twin bill sweep in women’s softball league action

Banes scored a doubleheader victory over O’Brien’s by scores of 13-4 and 8-5 Monday in Medina Women’s Softball League action.

In a single contest, Mariachi de Oro defeated Orchard Manor 24-12.

Kathy Quackenbush and Connie Heschke both had 3 hits for Banes in the opener as Jen Masse and Robin Blaun both chipped in with 2 including a double.

After scoring twice in each of the first three innings, Banes put a lock on the win by scoring three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Jamie Chatt had a double and Quackenbush and Kathy Allen singles in the fifth. Masse then had a double and Heschke, Sue Seefeldt and Kristin Guild singles in the sixth.

In the second game, Allen had four hits, including a pair of doubles, Blaun, Guild and Chatt 3 and Alisha Foss 2 as Banes improved to 3-2.

Blaun and Allen both had doubles during a key four-run third inning which also included singles by Masse, Guild, Chatt and Foss.

Mariachi de Oro 24, Orchard Manor 12

Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit for Mariachi de Oro including Cori Matuszak with a double and 4 RBIs, Mary Jo Polick a double and 3 RBIs and Brittney Anderson 3 singles and 3 RBIs.

Defensively, Mallori Wienke had multiple run saving catches in the outfield, Ryin Moriarity more than a handful of outs in playing shutdown defense at shortstop and Jenn Fischer had 2 strikeouts in the circle.

Amber Brady had a home run for Orchard Manor.
