No. 2 seed Albion wasted little time in getting through the opening round of the Section VI volleyball playoffs as the Purple Eagles romped to a 25-17, 25-8, 25-16 victory over visiting No. 7 Dunkirk this evening in the Class B2 quarterfinals.

Chanyce Powell had three service aces and two spiking kills and Kelsee Soule 3 kills and 1 ace to spark Albion in the opening set.

Meghan Hurley then put together a huge run of 15 straight service points in the second game to rally the Purple Eagles from an early 3-2 deficit into a commanding 17-3 lead. Hurley had four aces and Powell registered three kills to highlight that decisive run.

Breaking away from an 8-8 tie, Albion moved on top to stay in the match clinching third set as Elizabeth Bentley served up four straight points including an ace.

Aces by Soule, Powell and Bentley, along with a kill by Soule, helped Albion quickly close out the set and the match.

Powell finished with a total of 7 kills, Soule 4 and Aleah Foos 2. Powell and Hurley both had 5 aces and Soule 4.

Albion will next host No. 3 East Aurora in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday. East Aurora ousted No. 6 Pioneer in three straight sets.
