Albion preps for N-O net opener

Photo by Mike Wertman – This trio of Josh Metzler, Andrew Burroughs and Ben Kirby will help lead the Albion High tennis team into the upcoming Niagara-Orleans League season.

Albion, which finished in a tie for third place at 7-5 last spring, is scheduled to open the Niagara-Orleans League tennis season Friday at Akron.

Senior Andrew Burroughs, who earned second team N-O All-League honors last spring, heads Albion’s veteran group which also includes senior Ben Kirby, juniors Kyler McQuillan, Dyer Benjovsky, Monica Benjovsky along with sophomores Daniel Beam and Josh Metzler.

“I think it’s going to be an exciting season in the league,” said coach Jay Kovaleski. “I think it’s going to be a close call all around with every team. I think everybody has a shot. The keys will be for us to keep focus and finish the match.”

The Purple Eagles roster also includes seniors Zach Scanlon, Chris Tabor, Kali Benjovsky and Taylor Mager; juniors David Stilwell, Michael Stilwell, Chase Vazquez, Madyson Coville, Logan London, Kellie O’Hearn and Cristal Quintana; sophomores Matt Flanagan, Dylan Hellerns and Kyle Thaine and freshmen Freeman Lattin, Connor Zicari, Emillie Barleben and Clara Stilwell.

The Purple Eagles key losses to graduation were first team N-O All-League honoree Joyce LaLonde, second team selection Alan Quintana and honorable mention pick Humza Quinn.
