Albion, Barker girls score home court victories in N-O action

Albion defeated visiting Roy-Hart 45-30 this evening to improve to 1-1 in Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball competition.

Barker (1-1) likewise scored a home court victory edging past Medina (0-2) 31-28.

In other N-O action, defending champion Wilson (2-0) nipped CSAT (1-1) 44-42 and Newfane (2-0) trimmed Akron (1-1) 33-30.

Justice Nauden scored a game high 18 points and Chanyce Powell added 10 to lead the way for Albion. Mandi Covis, Savannah Allen and Zhoe Starkweather each added 3, Olivia Prest 2 and Jessica Raglan 1 for the Purple Eagles.

Kendra Hill tallied 14 and Emma Lindke 12 for Roy-Hart which slips to 0-2.

Leading 25-19 after three quarters, Albion put a lock on the win by outpointing Roy-Hart 20-11 in the final stanza. Powell, who also grabbed off 16 rebounds, had a pair of layups and four free throws, Nauden a three and a bucket and Covis three free throws to lead the Purple Eagles down the stretch.

Albion led by narrow margins of 7-5 after one quarter and 14-13 at the half.

Barker 31, Medina 28
Melissa Grosshans scored 9, Caitlyn Mason 7 and Morgan Brown 6 to lead Barker to the narrow win over Medina. Kelsie Flegal, Maicie Baker and Lindsey Williams each chipped in with 3 for the Lady Raiders.

Emily Kams took game high scoring honors with 15 for Medina as Molley Gross added 6, Maddy Winters 5 and Nicole Blount 2.

Kams scored 5, Gross 4 and Winters 3 in the final stanza as Medina rallied to outscore Barker 13-9 but the comeback bid fell just short.

Barker led 6-4 after one quarter, 18-12 at the half and 22-15 at the three-quarter mark.

Wilson 44, CSAT 32
A basket at the buzzer by Jodie Vincent earned Wilson the narrow win over CSAT.

Kayla Neumann scored 17, Rachel Senek 11 and Vincent 7 for Wilson which trailed 25-21 at the half.

Newfane 33, Akron 30
A late three by Brooke Horning and a layup by Paige Emborsky keyed Newfane to the narrow 33-30 in at Akron.

Horning had a total of 11 on the evening as Katie Kneeland added 7 and Emily Knight 6.

Maggie Kowalik led Akron with 11.

Attica 29, Holley 14
Leading by a narrow 15-12 margin at the half, Attica outscored host Holley 14-2 in the second half to claim a 29-14 Genesee Region League win.

Sam Barniak scored 9 points in the first half to keep Holley close.

Jade Underwood grabbed off 11 rebounds and Emily Bailey 8 for the Lady Hawks.

Wheatland-Chili 48, Kendall 20
Roaring out to a 29-7 half-time advantage, Wheatland-Chili went on to defeat host Kendall 48-20 in a G-R contest.

Taylor Kingsbury scored 6 and Tania Arellano 4 for Kendall.
