In a high scoring, sea-saw contest, Medina dropped a 12-10 decision at Akron this evening in a Lockport Midget ‘A’ League make-up game.

Setting the tone for the evening, Medina jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Matt Riemer only to see Akron answer right back with 5 runs in the home half of the frame highlighted by two doubles and a triple.

Down 8-3, Medina came battling back with 4 runs in the top of the fourth. Three walks loaded the bases to set up the rally and Doug Bachman followed up with a three-run triple as Medina sliced the deficit to 8-7.

Medina finally regained the lead for what proved to be the last time at 10-9 by scoring three times in the top of the fifth inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of Jared Zinkievich and a two-run double by Justin Morgan, Singles by Riemer and Devonte Howard and a walk set up the threat.

However, Akron again answered right back with two runs in the home half of the fifth to regain the lead for good at 11-10.

Medina went down 1-2-3 in the sixth but then got the first two batters aboard in the top of the seventh on a single by Riemer and a fielders choice play off the bat of Howard. However, Medina could not capitalize as Akron quickly got out of the jam on a strikeout and two infield popups to lock up the victory.

Riemer had 4 hits on the night and Bachman 2.

The loss drops Medina to 3-6 as Akron goes to 3-6-1.

Medina next hosts Roy-Hart at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park in the regular season finale.

Roy-Hart at 7-3 is battling with Lyndonville (8-3) for the regular season title. Lyndonville hosts Lockport at 6 p.m. Thursday.
