Medina cagers romp past Akron

Getting point product from 11 players, front-running Medina romped to a 64-36 victory over visiting Akron this evening to finish the first half of the Niagara-Orleans League basketball season at 6-0.

Jalin Cooper scored 16, Alex Allis 11 and Johnny Salone 10 to lead the Medina scoring parade as Tyler Howard added 6, Mason Lewis and Vincent Montague 4, Izaiah Rhim, Tyrellis Atkins and Brendan Luthart 3 and Trenton Jones and Jorge Phillips 2.

Setting the tone, Medina raced out to an 18-2 lead at the outset as Allis tallied 8, including two threes, and Cooper 7.

Up 18-7 at the end of the opening period, the Mustangs then broke the contest wide open in the second quarter with a huge 23-4 scoring edge to open up a 30 point, 41-11, half-time advantage. Salone scored 8, Cooper 7 and Lewis 4 during that stretch.

The Mustangs maintained a 50-24 advantage at the three-quarter mark.

The loss drops Akron to 0-6.

Medina also defeated Akron in the JV game 48–37 as Nate Sherman scored 16, Emmanuel Taylor 12 and Tyler Chinn 8.

Newfane 58, Wilson 57
Newfane stayed just a game off the pace at 5-1 with a narrow 58-57 victory over rival Wilson.

Max Weber scored 18, Kyle DeVoogle 16 and Caleb Rssell 9 to lead the way for Newfane which erased a 38-36 deficit at the three-quarter mark with a 22-17 final period scoring edge.

Connor Seeley scored 21 and Justin Daul 15 for Wilson which slips to 3-3.
