League leading Medina girls down Akron

Medina bested host Akron 50-35 the evening to finish the first half of the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball season at 6-0.

Je’ne Brown scored 24 and Maddie Williams 18 to lead the Medina attack as Emily Kams and Molley Gross both had 3 and Kayla Cuadra 2. Brown also had 14 rebounds and 10 blocks, Gross 8 rebounds and Kams 6 assists and 3 steals.

Darion Jonathan had 12 for Akron which slips to 2-4.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead as Brown tallied 10 quick points.

Up 18-13 at the half, the Mustangs pulled way for good by outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-12 in the third period. Williams scored 9, on three threes, and Brown 6 during that stretch helping to boost the Medina lead to 37-25 at the three-quarter mark.

In other N-O action, Wilson (6-1) downed host rival Newfane (3-4) 58-47.

Lyndonville, Kendall bow in G-R games

Leading 26-15 at the half, Oakfield-Alabama used a big 18-2 third period scoring edge to lock up a 60-23 victory over visiting Lyndonville in a Genesee Region League game.

Aubrey Lewis led Lyndonville with 12.

In another G-R contest, Attica downed Kendall 38-21.
